Switch Sweat

The original mix of “Jacques Your Body (Make Me Sweat)” sounds like a funky-house thunder clap. The acid synth bass winds around electro scratches and a bootsy-like mantra exhorts some jacking of the body. Like any versatile house chant from the 80′s and beyond, the single was bound to come back to bite the top 10 now that acid house has returned, even spawning an inspired remix by it-boy Switch. Switch tends to fall back on grinding crecendoes that explode to reveal tender vocal hooks. The acid re-emerges like an angry freight train shortly thereafter. Needless to say, all his work obliterates dance floors with bass. For more fun check out his new mix of All Saints/”Bend It Like Beckham”-midget Shaznay Lewis’ “You”.Thanks to Bastardgraphics.com for the pic!

A Friend With Weed Is Better

Placebo had a nice little market niche carved out for themselves. All the gothster hip kids who later modeled their looks after the cure girl in “Wet Hot American Summer” bought in and the beats were just danceable enough to get folks moving, well, at least danceable enough to incite a slow zombie sway. “Pure Morning” was the type of song that alternative rock radio would have put on heavy rotation in the summer of 1998, never letting you forget that good drugs were scarce and reliable friends who wouldn’t ditch you at the public pool were scarcer. I first heard Les Rhythmes Digitales in 1999 with the release of his album “Darkdancer.” Not too many great remixes under the LRD monicher, but Stu Price made this lil’ beauty just slick enough to go from sweaty summertime anthem to sad 80′s-night syrup.
