Björk has a billion legit remixes. They’ve been steadily jerked out by the congnoscenti of IDM and dance music over her nearly 20 year career as a solo artist. Towa Tei, David Morales, Masters At Work and on and on. My current favorite is The Soft Pink Truth’s take on “In Our Hands,” which Matmos hammered into a thousand sparkling pieces during her Verspertine tour. But there are also some tight boots floating around. They range from mouth-wateringly beautiful (see The Rub’s DJ Ayers’ Timbaland v “Hyperballad”) to batty as fuck (see Brancaccio & Aisher’s “AIFOL” rub-a-dub). This Infussion remix of “Pagan Poetry” seemed pretty legit, considering it was featured prominantly on a recent Paul Oakenfold “mix.” But, upon consulting the discog gods, it seems that it ain’t.

Pheonix Rising

The name Phoenix always reminds me of the oh so cool girl who used to live across the street from me in Kansas. She’s probably modling or in art school in New York right now. Phoenix also reminds me of why I love French music. While the folks at Ed Banger continue to churn out le crunk by artists like Sebastian and Zongamin, and Daft Punk wows the tribal massive at Coachella, we Americaners on the east coast can settle for brilliant pop from Phoenix. The best part of Phoenix’ live show has to be their pint-sized, be-mustached, drummer. The guy was adorable in his camel boots, black jeans and white tux shirt; and he could lay a beat like a vegan-friendly hen. At one point the band’s amature tech blacked out the stage mid-song and my friend Mike put up a lighter to illuminate Thomas Mars’ petite bust. That guy is a crooner in the best sense of the word. That gushing aside, this remix of LDC, likely to be the highlight from the new album, is from a lim-ed single that we picked up along with the band’s new studio pre-release. I really love pop.
