It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a virtuosic, two-piece (two-tone), band rooted in American blues music has been making leftfield indie dance hits. Seven Nation Army has already been gussied up by glossy house and breaks producers Tim Deluxe and Adam Freeland and covered by the likes of Audioslave, Metallica and The Flaming Lips. In other words: when you hear that tell tale octave-dropped guitar theme, its time to grab another drink at the bar. But Get Behind Me Satan’s standout lead single, Blue Orchid, is still ripe for the picking. Enter Dirty Funker and High Contrast. Funker had a minor hit back in 2002 with Future, a Noreaga-sampling, tech-house stomper, but may best be known for his more recent funky house mixes of Nirvana’s Lithium and Smells Like Teen Spirit. High Contrast is the Welsh wonderboy who helped to reinvigorate the UK Drum & Bass spirit with (gasp!) horns, soulful vocals, and proper song structures. He’s a heavy hitter for West London-based Hospital Records (founded by London Elektricity’s Tony Colman and Chris Goss) and his remix is the poo. Take a whiff.
